In my own reports I have noticed that, and disputed to no avail, that collectors buy very old debts, and initiate collections for companies that no longer exist or have already agreed to forget (write off) the debt. Additionally, it doesn't seem to matter that the important accounts (auto leases, car payments, mortgages, rents) are alwasy paid on time. Yet, a $165 credit card debt that went over 90 days, 5 years ago is reflective of my credit worthiness. What purpose would that serve other than making more money for the reporting agencies paying members?
